Igar Tyshkevich, an analyst of the Ukrainian Institute for the Future:
– Lukashenko needs the future: future markets, money, profit and joint business. He actually needs a “lawyer” in contacts with the European Union and the United States of America. Therefore, it is not surprising that Oleksandr Lukashenko is in Kiev so often. In 2012-2013 the Belarusian export to Ukraine was about $ 5 billion, and in the next two years it decreased to $ 2.5-2.8 billion. The Ukrainian market, however, is important for Belarus because it is profitable: the balance between mutual trade in goods and services never falls below $ 1.5 billion in favor of Belarus. It means money now, and in the future.
