On October 3, 2024, the first part of the project Other Education: Genesis of Educational Concepts of Western Society was presented and discussed. The Ukrainian Institute for the Future, in partnership with the Friends of Ukraine Foundation, invited educators, scientists, politicians, and media representatives to participate.
The speaker at the event was Vitaliy Khromets, an expert in the development of educational legislation.
What does Ukraine need to develop an education system that meets future challenges? First and foremost, it is crucial to assess the current situation and determine which educational models should be implemented. Education is more than just the transfer of knowledge; it is about shaping individuals who can adapt to change and tackle the challenges of the modern world. However, there is currently no clear long-term strategy.
Key issues discussed included:
- What should the new educational model look like to prepare future leaders?
- How can we adapt our education system to train future specialists?
- What can we learn from the experience of Western countries to ensure the competitiveness of our students and workforce?
The educational concepts of Western societies have not only been shaped by historical events but also continue to drive innovation and progress in modern education. Studying these experiences is essential for adapting best practices to local contexts. Understanding Western educational models is key to addressing current educational challenges and creating a more effective system for both present and future realities.
The presentation combined theory with practical insights. Participants learned about the key stages of Western educational model development, how they can be adapted to address the current challenges of Ukraine’s labor market, and had the opportunity to engage in discussion, exchange views, and contribute to shaping a concept for modernizing education in Ukraine.
