Anatoliy Amelin, director of UIF economic programmes, spoke about the economic aspect of the events in PACE related to the return of the right to vote to Russia. According to him, the economic component is one of the main reasons for recent events. Read why Europe is making concessions to Russia and HOW Ukraine can win this battle using economic weapons.

The economic component was the main cause of these events and there were several reasons for this. First, it is Russia’s membership fees that it pays to PACE, and the second is the lifting of sanctions, which opens up the market for Europeans, because sanctions are imposed by both Russia and Europe, and Europe, in turn, needs to improve its financial condition. And Russia is not just a country with a GDP of one and a half trillion dollars, but also the consumer market, which brings 300 billion dollars, where 150 billion is food. Of course, not all Russians can afford European products, but some representatives of the middle class buy these products. Accordingly, after the lifting of sanctions Europe is pretty much guaranteed to get tens of billions of dollars from the supply of European products to Russia.
