HUNGARY IS AGAINST MIGRANTS, BUT HAS THE OVERTIME LAW

On December 19, Hungary, along with Poland, the Czech Republic, Israel and the United States, opposed the adoption of the UN Global Compact for Migration. Although the document has no legally binding force, Hungary’s protest clearly shows the country’s firm stand to hosting the migrants. Despite Hungary’s growing skepticism about EU and UN initiatives, the country is demonstrating economic growth and social prosperity. Minimum wages are rising, family policy is successful, children of the Carpathian basin receive more and more opportunities to study in Hungarian institutions. In addition, Hungary does not forget to take care of its own security. The Ministry of Defence decided to purchase new ballistic missile defence systems. But the mood of the population is not very positive, even though pro-government polls show that the population supports the government, not street protests caused by the so-called “slave law”.
