We present the third material from our cycle #international_politics_for_dummies where we explain complex international processes in simple words

At the beginning of the week, an extraordinary event took place in Lebanon. This has almost brought the country to the brink of a new armed conflict. In the suburbs of Beirut, there was a shooting with the participation of one of the deputies of the Parliament, leading pro-Syrian politician Wiam Wahhab. The police tried to detain him by force to bring him for questioning to the police department, but he refused. The shooting occurred between the police and the guards of Wahhab. As a result of it one of the assistants of the latter was killed. This event stirred up supporters and opponents of the politician and exacerbated social tensions within society. Tensions were running high, and calls for arming sounded from both warring sides. At some point, it seemed that Lebanon is returning to the bloody and terrible civil war of 1975-1990.
