Recently, information about the cancellation of parent committees caused a wide public resonance. Soon, it turned out that this information was fake (the schools continue to have public self-government bodies – the parent committees in particular). The reason for such rumors: Order signed by the Minister of Education on December 21, 2017 on the termination of the obsolete Order No. 440 of June 2, 2004 – “On approval of the exemplary provisions on parent committees (councils).” The Ministry of Education and Science explained that within the limits of its legal powers it “did not and does not have any relation to the creation or non-creation of bodies of parental self-government (parent committees) in institutions of general secondary education.” The powers of the bodies of self-government, which are the parent committees, are defined in Articles 28 and 70 in the “Law on Education”, adopted on September 5, 2017. Today a new law on secondary education is being prepared at the Ministry of Education, and parent committees will be regulated in a new way. Meanwhile, everything remains as it was.
