One of the key countries in North Africa, Sudan, has been experiencing the largest anti-government protests in recent years for almost a month. They broke out on December 20 in several major cities. There were shootings in the Sudanese capital for the first time since 2013, and armoured vehicles and troops deployed on the streets. The situation continues to worsen and is likely to continue in the new 2019 year.
